The day before yesterday, also known as Tuesday, I got to eat some cozze (mussels)! They are so good! They rank right up there with grilled steak, and let me tell you, that takes a lot.

The first course was spaghetti alle cozze. It was wonderful, I had to add a little peperoncino, but it was delightful non-the-less.

The second course was breaded cozze. You eat them right out of the shell. You can also squirt a little lemon on them too, but the lemon is more for when you eat the raw or sautéed. All I can say is yum!

Our city, Taranto, is known all over Italy for their cozze. When you come to Taranto for a visit, you have to eat some cozze. I just can’t get enough of them. I haven’t been quite brave enough to eat them raw yet, but never say never!

Mussels are the most maligned of the shell fish, but I think they have the best taste.  Better than clams or oysters.

Mmmmmmmmmmmmm!

If it's in a shell, it's gotta be good.

A local Asian resturant has Mussels in a black bean sauce that are fantastic, served in the shell, after steaming they're marinated in the sauce, which is a little sweet, and a little tangy.

But, better than oysters? Clams I'll agree, but fresh oysters, steamed over a beer broth, dipped in garlic butter has no equal
